A denture is a removable dental appliance that replaces missing teeth. Similar to dentures, partial dentures are made to fill in the spaces when some natural teeth remain.

Benefits

Benefits to wearing dentures include improving your ability to chew, your appearance, and even your speech. A full set of teeth are needed to fully chew food, and being able to do so can improve digestion and certainly the enjoyment of food. Dentures can also restore a full, healthy smile and support sagging facial muscles. And while it may take practice, many denture wearers are better able to articulate their speech after receiving dentures.

Getting Dentures

If your treatment plan includes dentures, your dentist will begin by making an impression and taking measurements of your mouth. From these, a dental laboratory will custom make the dentures to fit your mouth.

When your dentures are ready, your dentist will work with you to fit and make adjustments to ensure the best fit and comfort possible. Dentures take some time to adjust to wearing. The process take anywhere from three to six weeks and multiple appointments with your dentist.

Your dentist will provide you with instructions on when to wear your dentures and how best to care for them.
